Pedophilia and the Catholic Church High tide
The crisis now facing the Church must be, in my view, the worst since the one that led to the Second Vatican Council back in 1962. And, once again, the reason lies in the loss of power and credibility of it. If before crisis was a product of the ideological influence of the left that leads the Church to change its strategy and go literally to the streets, that is, a crisis that starts from the outside and the inside affects the point of responding to out, and now the crisis is beginning to internal and external affect answers - following the logic rocker - are kept inside.
However, the net result (this time yes no coincidence) is a further loss of power and legitimacy. Or perhaps we must accept that the "institution" Church is not an agent, the final analysis, political (and spiritual if you will)? I doubt it. Looking at the evidence provided by the Vatican itself, the curve of adhesion or auto-Catholic church membership is steadily declining. And those individuals eager to spirituality, certainly no longer look to the Judeo-Christian a break, but go to the East (Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam) to "stock up" far-reaching response. From the logic of competition, the Catholic Church you are winning by a landslide. And when you're losing rout or develops a strategy to avoid as many goals (we have seen), or one that attempts to trace the marker (desirable).
In general, I found two types of conflicting views on the Church (and Christianity for all purposes). The former are advocates stealth "mission" church, watching with pain the crimes of the last time, but - ultimately - considered essential to maintaining the institution as it is a sort of wildcard peace of mind. The latter, by contrast, are a kind of rabid dog bites anyone who expressed adherence to the Church. This would, say critics and left an evil entity from the beginning of time, and the latest allegations are but a sample of the above. Mutatis mutandis, we have seen both terms in the media.
For variety, consider that the analysis Shall follow a logic "centrist." It is totally and absolutely true that the crimes are disgusting. It is also true that pedophilia tends to be associated not a distant relationship between the abused and abusers, but quite the opposite. Those members of the Church criminals had that closeness, and - given his sick mind - abused their position of aberrant form. Those are the facts that trigger the crisis.
How does one respond? Of the worst possible way. Ignoring the issue, blaming the pavement, calling on introspection. I do not consider that the whole Church is a representation of evil, I do not think that all ecclesiastics are pedophiles and not think there is a concerted strategy to bury the issue in the abyss of oblivion. But the communications strategy has been so disastrous that, indeed, gives the impression that it has tried every means to bury the issue. And that leads to the now classic conspiracy theories of religion and personal power. The fault, gentlemen, is the church members and those having knowledge or power to audit, performed by omission, negligence or complicity. At this point there is little they can do to keep from sinking further. But with each new statement appeared that the swamp is swallowing us all. Therefore, the desirable strategy of talking above ought to be going on the offensive, and this is done by venting and transparent. Are there more cases of known pedophiles? Make them public. Does that church authorities knew of the situation? Eject publicly. What else can you lose? Den sign of authority and leadership. Convene, redirect, analyze and transparent. This can only be achieved - from my point of view - with a drastic policy decision: a new Council Ecumenical. Needless to say that, once and for all, the Church must also adopt eligibility criteria, but this is something of truism. I think in any case, it will not.
